Hey Jason Moss here, and today I’m going to show you how to install a theme on your WordPress website. All right? It’s very simple and you can do it in a number of different ways. Okay? You can either upload your own theme, all right? Or you can find one in the WordPress directory, you know, like free themes, that type of thing. So the first thing you want to do is log into your WordPress website. You’re going to come over here and on the appearance, all right? You actually hover over appearance and the themes pops up. So like let’s say you were on the the plugins or the dashboard, you hover over, parents go to themes, all right? And you can search inside of here. Well this is your installed themes I should say. All right? But you can hit add new. You can add add new theme over here as well.

Jason Moss:

So you can add new and you can either upload right here or you can see this is all, these are all free themes inside of the WordPress directory. Not a lot of these have free [inaudible] or free themes. But a lot of them have like premium versions, okay. To where you can get more pages. It just depends on what you want to do. A lot of people use these free ones, but a lot of people use paid ones as well. If you have like a real website, like a real business website, for the most part, you’re going to want to pay for a theme to get something that is that has all the proper options that you need. Okay. But if you’re just running like a little one or two page website, maybe a blog, something very simple or you just don’t have the budget for a paid theme at this point, you can always use a free one and then upgrade later.

Jason Moss:

Okay. so inside here you can search themes. I mean you can search like let’s search like blog and you can find anyone that’s tagged with blogs. You know, see a lot of examples. You can click on them, you can see a little writeup on them, you can read reviews and you’ll see like a, a theme preview. Nothing is really filled out on this. Of course, when you hit like install it, just installs it right for you. Okay? Now it doesn’t activate it. All right? So you can X out of this or you can activate it right then and there. You can go back to your appearance theme section and you can see this, this one here, the one that is active 2019 2017 and 2016 all came already installed on this WordPress installation. Okay? Those are from WordPress themselves. Now here’s the theme we just installed. Okay, so we can see that life preview again or we can just activate it

And now it is activated. Some themes require or recommend other plugins to be installed. When do this, you can just click on begin installing plugins and it’s going to install these two plugins automatically for you. You don’t have to go to the plugin directory and search for those. It does that for you. I’m not going to do that right now. But if you go to the main homepage, you can see that that theme is now installed. And of course there’s going to be some configuration, some customizations that you want to do to get things right to how you want it to look. Okay. so we can go back and let’s go back to appearance.

There we go. And go to themes. All right, because now I’m going to show you how to upload a plugin. Excuse me, a theme. We’re going to hit add new. Remember now when you’re uploading, you click on the upload theme and it’s just like if you were doing a plugin, okay. So we’re going to choose file and we’re going to browse on our desktop. Today I’m going to install Devi. All right, which is one of my favorite themes by far. Devi just keeps updating and updating that you can do so much with Devi. I have a lot of websites built using Debbie. So we click on Devi, we hit open, you hit install now and you can see it’s uploading it right now to the server. And there we go. Unpacking, installing. And theme installed successfully. Okay. Now you also have the options of the live preview, the activate, or you can go back to the themes page.

I’m going to go ahead and activate it, all right? And now you can see Devi is installed. This one was automatically on installed. All right? Still it’s still on your server so you can activate it if you want. Okay. maybe I should have said it was automatically deactivated. Okay. Cause it’s still on here of course, but it’s just not active. So DV is now active. That is what the website is using. We can go to the homepage and we can see DV is installed. When you first installed V, it is very blank. Of course. You know, there’s, there’s customizations that you have to do, which may be, I’ll detail that in a later video. Okay. But everything is installed as far as that theme is concerned. And now you just get to customizing your thing and make it your website. But that is how you install find the free themes inside of a, instead of inside of WordPress and upload them. If you have questions or comments, leave them below.
